I started helping my husband's barbeque team by doing small tasks like washing dishes then one day I decided, ‘Hey! I can do that too!'

Thanks to a new qualifying process for 2018, this year’s Fire & Ice Women’s Barbeque Series is already off to a hot start.

Now in its third year of sponsoring the all-female pitmaster competition, Cowboy Charcoal decided to spice things up by allowing five qualifiers to bypass the year-long points race by winning a HOT PASS at specific events during the barbeque season. The remaining five qualifiers will earn their way through the traditional KCBS points race process. All ten will then go head to head in a two-day finale at the World Food Championships in Orange Beach, Ala.

The first lady-pitmaster to snag a HOT PASS?  Jackie Milligan of Team Chupacabra thanks to her performance at Turn N’ Burn in Pleasanton, Texas on March 8-11, 2018.

“I specifically competed at Turn N' Burn because I wanted to be a part of Fire & Ice,” explained Milligan. “I'm so happy to be a part of this group of ladies.”

The first HOT PASS winner hails from Poteet, Texas and has been competing in barbeque for the past two years. In that short time, Milligan has managed to win two grand championships and within the last year has competed in 11 barbeque competitions. She first caught the competitive barbeque bug after assisting her husband’s team during their cooks.

“I started helping my husband's barbeque team by doing small tasks like washing dishes then one day I decided, ‘Hey! I can do that too,’” said Milligan.

This will be Milligan’s first time competing in Fire & Ice championship. She is thrilled to be joining this group of women to showcase their talents at the world’s largest Food Sport stage.

“It's fantastic. I'm really excited to be about of this sisterhood,” commented Milligan. “It's empowering to be surrounded by other women who share the same passion and talent as you.”

Stay tuned to see which lady pitmasters will grab the four remaining HOT PASSES to advance to the finals for a shot at $30,000 in cash and jewelry prizes in November!
