Hot Pass Winner
Wine Country Big Q

Sylvie Curry

Lady of Q

“I enjoy doing the Fire and Ice competition because it also us to show the community that [lady pitmasters] get out there and get smokey and dirty too.”

Things are heating up (and filling up!) for the 2018 Fire & Ice Women’s Barbeque Series, as Cowboy Charcoal recently awarded the third HOT PASS winner for this year’s event.

The third lucky lady-pitmaster to snag a HOT PASS was Sylvie Curry, who competes as Lady of Q. Curry qualified for the Fire & Ice series final in November by being the highest scoring pitmaster at the Wine Country Big Q in Petaluma, California on July 7.

Now in its third year of sponsoring the all-female pitmaster competition, Cowboy Charcoal decided to spice things up by allowing five qualifiers to bypass the year-long points race by winning a HOT PASS at specific events during the barbeque season. The remaining five qualifiers will earn their way through the traditional KCBS points race process. All ten will then go head to head in a two-day finale at the World Food Championships in Orange Beach, Alabama.

Sylvie Curry has been competing in barbeque for over 12 years and has even dabbled in judging several competitions. The seasoned pitmaster from Ramona, California says along with her competitive spirit, the community is what drew her to start competing.

I got started in competitive barbecue because I love meeting people from all over of the country and the competitiveness of it all,” explains Curry.

Nonetheless, this Fire & Ice finalist can’t deny the thrill of hearing your name called as the overall winner at a competition. Curry, who competed in the 2016 Fire & Ice Finals, is excited to return to Orange Beach for a chance to go head-to-head with the nine other finalists for the chance at the grand prize and champion title.

“I enjoy doing the Fire and Ice competition because it also us to show the community that [lady pitmasters] get out there and get smokey and dirty too.”

Stay tuned to see which lady pitmasters will grab the two remaining HOT PASSES to advance to the finals, where they’ll have a shot at $30,000 in cash and jewelry prizes in November!
