Lu Holter

Croix Valley Sauces

“I think a competition like this is wonderful and gives the younger generation of female pitmasters some great examples to look up to.”

Lu Holter of team Croix Valley Sauces is no stranger to the competitive world of Food Sport or the Ultimate Food Fight. In fact, she was previously registered to compete in the Bacon category for the 7th annual World Food Championships (WFC) when Lu discovered she had qualified her for a ladies-only barbeque challenge. Lu decided to switch categories so she could have a chance at the Cowboy Charcoal Fire & Ice Women’s Barbeque Series crown.

“Food Sport is my favorite thing! I love WFC and the fact I’m now getting to compete in my favorite category just makes it even better!” said Lu. “I’m really excited about competing under the E.A.T. methodology judging criteria because I get to be a little more creative with my presentation.”

Lu and her husband have been competing for about seven years and enter an average of 18-20 competitions a year. In addition, the couple has their own line of hand-crafted, award-winning barbeque and grilling sauces, marinades and seasonings. Lu, in her spare time, tries her best to “coach the next generation” of Food Sport competitors as a part of the Minnesota BBQ Society.

“My 20-year-old daughter has just started to compete in barbeque. She’s a driving force that has picked it up really quickly,” said Lu. “I think a competition like this is wonderful and gives the younger generation of female pitmasters some great examples to look up to.”

The winner of the Fire & Ice championships will take home a $10,000 prize pack, including some signature jewelry (the “ICE”) provided by Manning Jewelry out of Fairhope, Alabama. Cowboy Charcoal will also match the Grand Prize earnings of the Fire & Ice Grand Champion with a check for $10,000 to the charity of her choice. Additionally, one of the ten finalists has a chance to earn a $5,000 donation to go towards the charity of her choice through the #QueWithPurpose social media contest. The 3rd Annual Cowboy Charcoal Fire & Ice Women’s Championship Barbeque Series will occur November November 9-11 at The Wharf in Orange Beach, Alabama. To learn more about how you can cheer on Lu and the other lady pitmasters at WFC, visit www.worldfoodchampionships.com.
